THE new Dr Who has been announced by BBC Wales – following his father and grandfather in to the top job .
Rhodri Talfan Davies has been regenerated from two former Time Lords.
He becomes the third member of his family to wrap the Doctor’s famous multi coloured scarf around his neck and take control of the Tardis.
His father Geraint Talfan Davies and even grandad Aneirin Talfan Davies have previously battled the Daleks and other foes while saving individuals and even whole societies from certain doom.
“I am thrilled and sincerely honoured to have been chosen for the role of the Doctor,” said Rhodri following the announcement by BBC Wales, which produces Doctor Who.
“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to fly the Tardis, though not so happy to have to share the limelight with John bloody Barrowman and Torchwood.”
Welcoming his appointment, BBC director general Mark Thompson said: “Rhodri brings with him a wealth of experience across time, space and the galaxy.”
A BBC spokesman said the son of two previous post holders had gained the appointment through the appropriate procedures.
He said: “As any true Doctor Who fan would know the Doctor regularly regenerates himself and has done this since he first battled the Sontarans and Davros in the Battle of the Celestial Toyroom.
“It would be ridiculous to suggest there is anything improper about the fact his father and grandfather before him had also occupied this role.”
