Giggs fires still burning

The smoke from the pile of press cuttings being burned by Ryan Giggs can be seen for miles

FIREFIGHTERS say it could take days to extinguish a pile of burning newspapers set ablaze by scandal struck footballer Ryan Giggs.

The fire at a warehouse at the Fforestfach Industrial Estate in Fforestfach, Swansea has been burning since lunchtime last Thursday, June 16.

Giggs started the blaze in an attempt to put the bad press which has dogged him in recent months behind him. The Manchester United and Wales mega-star’s public image has taken a battering following revelations that he:

People living close to the estate have been told to keep their windows and doors closed as plumes of thick black burning scandal have blown across the area.

It is thought thousands of tonnes of shredded newspapers were inside the warehouse.

The fire caused traffic gridlock as several roads were closed and bus services disrupted.

Ystrad Road, Bruce Road, Kingsway and Queensway are still shut to traffic, but Carmarthen Road has reopened along with Middle Road. Diversions are in place.

Fforestfach Industrial Estate is closed and the park and ride service is suspended.

Swansea Council said it was ‘very disappointed’ in the former Wales captain. It said in a statement : “We don’t wish to comment on any personal problems Giggsy may be experiencing but it is very disappointing that he chose to burn these newspapers in Swansea. He should fuck off back to Cardiff and burn his papers there or Manchester, where it rains a lot apparently.”
