SOCCER has been rocked by revelations that star midfielder Ryan Giggs had been secretly playing away from home in his brother’s boots.

Manchester United ace and former Wales captain Ryan, 37, is accused of going behind his brother Rhodri’s back and taking his prized football boots. 34-year-old former Welsh Premier League star Rhodri had no idea of his brother’s deceit – which is thought to have been going on for eight years – until he was contacted by a Sunday newspaper.

Last night former Aberystwyth Town and Bangor City star Rhodri, who has previously heavily featured in the media cashing in on his brother’s fame, was uncharacteristically too upset to speak about his famous older brother.

But a close friend admitted: “He’s devastated and can’t believe the extent of his humiliation.

“Rhodri said, ‘I know me and Ryan have had our ups and downs but this is the lowest of the low’. His head is in a mess.”

The revelations come after it emerged Ryan had used a super injunction to prevent negative reporting of his performances for the Welsh national team. Legal experts speculated Giggs may have sought the injunction to prevent his brother from knowing about them sharing the boots.

Rhodri was being supported last night by loyal pals – including TV actor Will Mellor, who plays Gaz in BBC Three shitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Mellor was best man at Rhodri’s wedding last September.

The younger Giggs has spent his career in the shadows of his more illustrious brother – the most decorated player in English football – and was advised to ply his trade in the Welsh league amid fears managers, fans and commentators would be unable to pronounce his Welsh name.

Part-time football manager Rhodri, who was described by friends as ‘fuming,’ is also reported to have told them he is ready to ‘spill the beans on the real Ryan Giggs,’ who had previously cultivated a clean cut image as football’s Mr Nice Guy.

The revelations have threatened to tear the family apart. The brothers’ aunt, Joanna Wilson branded the Premier League winner a ‘dirty dog’.

She blasted: “He has no morals. These are his brother’s boots, for God’s sake.

“And it went on for such a long time. We are all gutted for Rhodri.”
